EL DORADO – It was an interesting dilemma for the McPherson High School bowling teams as they had to play the numbers game on Thursday and came up short in the outcome as they lost both their boys and girls matches on the road at El Dorado.

As Bullpup Head Coach Herb Halinski explained in his post-match reflections, “We have eleven meets and the kids can only bowl in ten meets besides Regionals and State It was an interesting meet as we sit some varsity kids to give others some varsity experience.”

Overall, El Dorado outscored the Bullpup boys 2,347 to 2,220, while also out bowling the Lady Bullpups 1,724 to 1,515 in the varsity matches. They also defeated both junior varsity teams in matches where the Bullpups only had five junior varsity bowlers and lost just 1,736 to 1,543, while the Lady Bullpups only worked two girls in the junior varsity match.

Individually, it was a solid day for the Bullpups individually as Taylor Miller, despite a challenging lane condition, won the varsity boys with a 688 while Matt Stiggins finished second with a sparkling 601.

Haylee Busch made it two-for-two for individual titles on the day as she won the girls varsity match by rolling a 492.

Coach Halinski noted the individual stars by concluding his reflections saying, “Taylor (Miller) had a good day on a challenging lane condition, while Matt (Stiggins) bowled really well also though he could not buy a strike, so he just spared all day. On the girls side, Kylee Busch did really well as she has improved so much since December.”

The Bullpup bowlers will have a very busy final week of the regular season as they travel to Circle on Tuesday, Feb. 5, then head to Salina on Thursday, Feb. 7 for the six-team Salina South Invitational before finishing out the week on Friday, Feb.8 with a home meet at Starlite Lanes hosting Augusta.
