Mac County Roundup: Radke makes history, two Vikings finished first and Lady Pups finished their regular season at Wichita.

Both McPherson High School and Smoky Valley boys wrestling team were at Butler County over the weekend for their invitational. McPherson was in Rose Hill, while the Vikings were at Circle. For the McPherson girls, they finished completed their regular season at Wichita South before preparing for state.

Radke goes 4-0 and breaks takedown record

ROSE HILL — Scott Radke had a historic weekend during the Rose Hill Invitational. On Saturday, Radke won his weight class at 160 pounds, improving his record to 33-1, leading McPherson High School boys wrestling team to a third-place finish.

While winning three of his four matches by technical falls, the senior broke the school record for the most takedown in Bullpup history, formerly held by four-time state champion Travis Stites.

Jonah Clarke, Landon Frantz, Mason Thrash and Alex Perkins were placed third in their weight class. While Kourtney Craig and Landon Crews finished fourth and Lorenzo Cruzen was placed fifth. Rhett Edmonson sat out with a knee injury.

The Bullpups return home on Thursday to take on their league rivals Buhler High School on Senior night at the Auxiliary Gym at 6 p.m.

Lady Pups get warmed up before state

WICHITA — While the boys were at Rose Hill, the McPherson High School girls wrestling team competed at their last invitational at Wichita South High School before preparing for state this coming Saturday.

Haley Schafer was the top Bullpup as she finished first at 138 by pinfall. Kaleigh Marbut, at 120-126 and Holli Giddings, at 152-160, took second in their weight class. Morgan Jones (145), Sailor Peterson (152-160) and Madison Skytte (170-182) took third, and Brittani Burgess finished fifth their weight class.

Smoky Valley Grapplers competed at Circle Invitational

TOWANDA – Smoky Valley boys wrestling left Circle Invitational with a third-place finish on Saturday, right behind Frontenac and Eureka. Leading the way was Dax Hopp at 170, and Jon Burks at 220, as they both picked up gold in their weight class.

Chase Pywell, at 160, and Ethan Wampler at 285 finished second, and Tanner Luttig was third at 182. Next, for the Vikings, they will be travel to Larned High School for the Central League Tournament on Thursday, beginning at 3 p.m.
