BENNINGTON – The 2018-19 season has come to an end for the Canton-Galva boys basketball team as they stumbled in the Class 2A Sub-State Basketball Tournament on Monday, losing on the road to Bennington, 62-35.
With the loss the Eagles finish the season at 6-15.
Playing Bennington to a 10-10 tie at the end of the first quarter, Bennington pulled ahead of the Eagles 25-19 heading into the halftime break.
While Canton-Galva got the margin down to just two in the third quarter, Bennington went on a 9-0 run at the end of the quarter to take a 39-26 lead before dominating the fourth by outscoring the Eagles 23-9 in gaining their final 27-point win.
“We got the lead down to two late in the third before they went on a 9-0 run,” Eagle Head Coach Shane Duncan noted in his post-game reflections. “We did a great job of taking care of the ball until those final minutes of the third. We got great looks all night, but just couldn’t buy a basket.”
Tyson Struber had the big game for the Eagles, getting a season ending double-double by scoring 11 and grabbing 10 rebounds plus blocking five shots.
