LINCOLN, NEB.— The Bethany men's tennis team kicked off their season this weekend with two matches against Concordia University and Hastings College. The Swedes fell to the Bulldogs 5-4 before suffering a 7-2 loss to the Broncos.
Concordia – 5, Bethany - 4
The Swedes lost in a heartbreaker to Concordia University 5-4. The deciding match came down to number four singles; freshman, Manuel Lopez Videla was defeated by Isaac Gowes 6-3, 6-3. The Swedes started the match strong taking two out of three doubles points. Freshmen, Raul Rivero and Lopez-Videla won at number one doubles in dramatic fashion over Lucas Zoller and Jeremy Berryman 9-8 (8-6) in the tiebreaker. Sophomores, Miguel Abete and Andres Ricaurte winning at number two convincingly over Jack Kotson and Isaac Howes.
"The men's team competed and fought hard but came up short. I am proud of them and loved the tenacity that they showed," Swedes head coach, Larry Holmes said.

"I thought today we came off with a lot of energy and played with a pride. Still have some things to figure out and work on. Just have to continue to get better with each match," Holmes stated.
