GOODWELL, Okla.—The Bethany softball team was back in action on Saturday. The team faced the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State University. The Swedes fell 4-3 in the first game before suffering a 9-2 loss in game two.
OPSU – 4, BETHANY – 3
The Swedes kicked this one off in the top of the third inning with three runs. Cassie Baldino, freshman catcher, singled to center, before moving around on Courtney Fudge's, senior infielder, single to center. Ciera Flores, sophomore infielder, then sent one over the fence to score all three of them. The Aggies then rebounded with one run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
The Aggies added their final three runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Cassi Clouse, junior pitcher, started for the Swedes. Throughout four innings, Clouse allowed four runs, two earned on seven hits. Ashley Nava, junior pitcher, then game in and allowed just two hits within two innings of work.
On the offensive end, three Swedes notched hits.
OPSU – 9, BETHANY – 2
The Swedes started things off with two runs in the top of the first inning. Fudge walked her way on base before moving over on an Aggie wild pitch. She then moved to third on a Briana Rodriguez, freshman outfielder, ground ball. Flores then walked her way on base before stealing her way over to second. Tannah Colson, freshman designated player, then doubled to left to score Fudge and move Flores to third. Finally, Alexis Martinez, junior outfielder, hit a sacrifice fly ball to center to score Flores.
OPSU then answered with three runs in the bottom of the first and six in the third.
A pair of Swedes earned hits on the game with a group of pitchers working in the circle. Lauren Quintana, junior pitcher, suffered the loss. Throughout 4.1 innings, Quintana allowed three runs, two earned on two hits.
