STERLING—The Swedes baseball team suffered two tough losses in a conference doubleheader with York College. Bethany fell 9-0 before losing the second contest, 3-2.


The Panthers started things with a single run in the bottom of the first inning. The Panthers then put up eight runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning.

Josh Macat, sophomore pitcher, suffered the loss. Through four innings, Macat allowed nine runs, six earned on five hits. Brayden McAlister, freshman pitcher, came in and allowed just one run in four innings.

James Duvall, senior outfielder, recorded two hits along with Alex Martinez, junior designated hitter, and Luis Duran, senior infielder who had one hit each.


Again, the Panthers started things off with a single run in the bottom of the first inning. York scored one more in the bottom of the second. The Swedes then recorded two runs in the top of the fifth before the Panthers scored once more in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Edwar Melendez, senior pitcher, went the distance for the Swedes. In six innings, he allowed three runs on seven hits.

A trio of Swedes had multiple hits, Martinez, Tyler Horchem, senior outfielder, and Duran. Horchem also had an RBI on the day.
