LINDSBORG—The Bethany softball team picked up a split with non-conference foe, Hastings College. The Swedes picked up a 4-2 game one win before falling 12-3 in the second contest.

BTHY – 4, HC – 2

The Swedes used a strong defensive showing to keep the Broncos scoreless throughout the first innings of play. Bethany was able to score their four runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Tannah Colson, freshman designated player, reached on a Bronco error. She then moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Alexis Martinez, junior outfielder. Katelyn Dain, sophomore infielder, reached on a walk. Alexandra Medina, junior outfielder, then loaded the bases up with a single up the middle. Cassie Baldino, freshman catcher, then walked her way on base to score Colson. Courtney Fudge, senior infielder, then reached on a Hastings error that scored Dain and Medina. Finally, Emma Wager, junior infielder, then singled to shallow right field to score Baldino.

The Broncos were able to plate two runs in the top of the seventh but the Swedes were able to finish up the game and take the win.

Marisa Jervis, senior pitcher, threw a complete game allowing two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

The Swedes offense was spread out over four hits from four Swedes.

HC – 12, BTHY – 3

The Broncos came out strong with seven runs in the top of the first inning. Hastings then added three more runs in the top of the third before the Swedes were able to put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rayleen Castro, sophomore infielder, kicked things off with a home run over the right field fence. Colson then doubled to deep center before Medina came in to run for her. Martinez then put another ball over the fence to score the final two runs of the inning.

Hastings was then able to tack on two more runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Colson led the Bethany offense with two hits during the game while three other Swedes had a single hit each.

Laruen Quintana, junior pitcher, suffered the loss for the Swedes allowing 10 runs, six earned on eight hits in 2.1 innings of work. Ashley Nava, junior pitcher, then came in for 2.2 innings. During this time she allowed two earned runs on four hits.

The Swedes return with another non-conference double header on Tuesday, Mar. 19. Bethany will travel to Newman University to face the Jets at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
