LINDSBORG— The Swedes baseball team were back in action today for the third and final contest of the First Bank Kansas Smoky Hill Showdown. KWU took the win 12-5 to win the series 2-1.

The Coyotes kicked things off in the top of the first with a single run. They then added five more in the top of the third and plated three more in the sixth inning.

The Swedes were able to get on the board with a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Evan Schwab, junior catcher, doubled to center field. Zac Myrick, senior courtesy runner, then came in to run for Schwab. Braden Scrivner, junior designated hitter, then singled through the right side to move Myrick to third. James Duvall, senior outfielder, then hit a deep sacrifice fly ball to left field to score Myrick.

Kansas Wesleyan added three more in the top of the eighth and while the Swedes were able to answer with two runs each in the bottom of the eighth and ninth. In the eighth, Schwab reached base on a Coyote error before Myrick came in to run for him. Duvall then singled trough the left side to move Myrick into scoring position. Joe Kelleher, junior outfielder, then singled to center to score Myrick before another KWU error allowed Duvall to score.

In the ninth inning, Justan Bailey, junior outfielder, walked his way on before stealing his way to second base. Bailey was then able to move to third on a Tyler Horchem, senior outfielder, ground ball. Bailey then scored on a Luis Duran, senior infielder, single up the middle. Schwab then walked his way on base to moved Duran into scoring position. Duran was able to score on a Scrivner single up the middle.

Scrivner led the Bethany offense with three hits and an RBI. Luis Duran, senior infielder and Duvall each recorded two hits in the game. In addition, four other Swedes recorded hits in the contest.

Cohl Bohannan, junior pitcher, started on the mound for the Swedes. Through three complete innings, Bohannan allowed six earned runs on seven hits. Lyric Walker, junior pitcher, then came in for six innings. Through that time, he allowed six runs, five earned on seven hits.

The Swedes return to action with a non-conference double header on Tuesday, Mar. 19. Bethany will face Central Christian College.
