LINDSBORG—The Swedes baseball team picked up a big 17-4 non-conference win today over Central Christian College. Bethany's second contest of the day was rained out and is rescheduled for tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Bethany was able to kick things off in the bottom of the first inning with eight runs. Mike Lowery, senior infielder, walked his way on base before stealing his way to second. Tyler Horchem, senior infielder, and Evan Schwab, junior catcher, then were each hit by a pitch before Zac Myrick, senior pinch runner, then came in to tackle the bases for Schwab. Braden Scrivner, junior designated hitter, then singled to center field to score Lowery. James Duvall, senior outfielder, then singled to center to score Horchem and Myrick. Joseph Kelleher, junior outfielder, then reached on a walk to once again load up the bases. Justan Baileywas also hit by a pitch, scoring Scrivner before Lowery once again walked his way on, this time to score Duvall. Kelleher was then able to score on a wild pitch that moved everyone around the bases. Finally, a single to center filed by Horchem scored Bailey and Lowery.

Central was able to answer in the top of the second inning with a single run. However, Bethany was able to score one run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Scrivner triped to deep right center before scoring on a Duvall ground ball.

The Tigers then tacked on one more run in the top of the third, but the Swedes were able to answer with six runs in the bottom half of the inning. Branden Gonzalez, senior infielder, started things by reaching base on a Tiger error. He then moved to second when Bailey reached on a walk. Lowery then singled to left, scoring Gonzalez. Horchem then sent a double down the left field line to score Bailey and move Lowery to third. Luis Duran, senior infielder, then hit a sacrifice fly ball to center that scored Lowery. Schwab then singled up the middle to score Horchem. Myrick then came in to run for Schwab. Duvall then doubled to right-center to score Myrick before Kelleher reached base on a walk. Gonzalez then singled to shallow right-center to score Duvall.

Bethany tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. It started with a Bailey single to right. Lowery then reached base on a walk before Horchem doubled to left-center to score Bailey. Finally, Duran then singled to left to score Lowery.

Horchem led the team with three hits, two doubled, and four runs batted in. Duran, Scrivner, and Duvall each had two hits while four other Swedes notched hits in the contest.

A pair of Swedes worked from the mound today. Gus Lopez, senior pitcher, started things throwing three complete innings. During this time he allowed two earned runs on four hits. Gage Harmon, sophomore pitcher, then came in earning the win. He allowed two earned runs on six hits in four complete innings.
