TOPEKA – It was a good weekend for the MAC Wrestling Club as they had six top-six finishers, including two gold medalist, come out of the USAWKS Girls and Boys State Wrestling Tournament on Saturday and Sunday at the Topeka Expocentre.

Both Treyton Pelnar in the 14-under, 90-pound division and Mya Kretzer in the high school girls, 115-126 pound division brought home first Place finishes from the weekend.Holli Giddings, also wrestling in the high school girls division at 145-155 pound group, brought home a second-place medal.The other half of the Pelnar brothers, Tucker, place third in his 14-under, 105-pound division.

“We had a good weekend,” MAC Head Coach Lance Engel noted. “The wrestlers all put in their best effort. This was the first year they combined the Girls State Tournament with the Boys State Tournament. It was nice having them included in the ‘big show’. They handled the change well and rose to the occasion.”

Rounding out the top-six finishes for the MAC Wrestlers were Cooper Reves who finished fifth at 12-under, 96-pounds, and Eli Farley who placed sixth in his 12-under, 120-pound division. Other MAC wrestlers competing in Topeka included Parker Hulvey, Julian Glover, Hayden Farley, and Amethyst Hale.

Coach Engel concluded his tournament reflections by saying, “I want to thank all for their support this season.”

From Mar, 21-24, some of the MAC Wrestling Club girls will be competing in the USAW Girls National Folkstyle Tournament in Oklahoma City, OK, while several of the MAC Wrestling Club boys will compete in the USAW National Folkstyle Tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa during the weekend of Mar. 29-31.
