HESSTON — If Tuesday’s Hesston Invitational is any indication of how the Smoky Valley High School boys tennis season will go, the Vikings will be led by doubles.

Smoky Valley won both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles entries en route to a fourth-place finish. The doubles team of Matt and Jake Lucas won the No. 1 doubles title with an 8-7 (2) win in the championship over Salina Central.

At No. 2 doubles, Johann Rauchholz and Carson Byers went 3-0 for first as well.

In singles, Cole Brumbaugh went 2-1 for fifth, while Cade Schneider went 1-2 for seventh.

As a team, the Vikings scored 29 points for fourth place. They were only three points behind second-place finishers Hesston and Trinity Academy. Salina Central won the tournament with 38 points.

The Vikings are next in action on Apr. 2 in a home invitational featuring Abilene, Concordia, Hesston, Hillsboro, Pratt and Wichita Collegiate.
