LINDSBORG— The Swedes baseball team finished up a weather plagued series with the University of Saint Mary on Monday. Bethany took a 4-3 win from the Spires to win the series 2-1.

Both teams went scoreless in the this on until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Swedes plated one run. Braden Scrivner, junior catcher, reached base on a walk before Zac Myrick, senior courtesy runner, came in on the bases for him. Myrick then moved to third on an error on Evan Schwab's, junior designated hitter, ground ball. Finally, Myrick was able to score on a Joseph Kelleher, junior outfielder, sacrifice fly ball to center.

The Swedes added another run in the bottom of the sixth. Scrivner singled through the left side before Myrick came on the bases for him. Schwab then singled through the left side to move Myrick to third. Kelleher then put down a bunt but was safe due to a Spire error, Myrick was able to score on the play.

USM plated their first run in the top of the seventh before taking the lead with two runs in the top of the eighth.

Bethany however, was able to take the win with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Tyler Horchem, senior infielder, was hit by a pitch to reach base. He was then forced out on a James Duvall, senior outfielder, ground ball. Duvall moved to second on a Luis Duran, senior infielder, single up the middle. Scrivner then singled to shallow left to score Duvall. Lyric Walker, junior pinch runner, then came to take over on the bases for Duran at second base while Myrick took over for Scrivner. Schwab then hit a ground ball up the middle to move Walker to third, a Spire error on the play allowed Walker to score for the Swedes to win.

Three Swedes had multiple hits in the contest; Horchem had three hits, two of which were doubles while Scrivner had two hits, a run batted in, and two walks on the day. Finally, Schwab had two hits and a RBI on the day. Four other Swedes recorded hits in the contest.

From the mound, Josh Macat, sophomore pitcher, started things out for the Swedes. Through seven complete innings, Macat allowed one earned run on five hits. Brayden McAlister, freshman pitcher, came in for 0.2 innings allowing two unearned runs on one hit and a pair of walks. Finally, Cohl Bohannan, sophomore pitcher, earned the win for Bethany. Through 1.1 innings, he allowed zero runs on one hit. Defensively, Scrivner had a key throw out, catching a Spire stealing.
