CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Swedes baseball team took on another NCAA Division II today in a non-conference single nine-inning game. Bethany won the contest 4-2.

Both teams went scoreless through the first inning, but the Swedes started things off with three runs in the top of the second inning. Braden Scrivner, junior designated hitter, started things off with a single to right field. Evan Schwab, junior catcher, then singled to center field to move Scrivner to second. Joseph Kelleher, junior infielder, then walked his way on to load things up. A ground ball by Mike Lowery, senior infielder, allowed Scrivner to score and Kelleher to move to second, however Schwab was out at third on the play. Kelleher was then able to advance to third on a Branden Gonzalez, senior infielder, fly ball to the outfield. Another walk of Brandon Peters, sophomore outfielder, loaded up the bases again. Tyler Horchem, senior outfielder, then doubled to right center to score Kelleher and Lowery.

Bethany added their final run of the game in the fourth inning. Horchem started things with another double, this time to left field. Horchem advanced to third on a James Duvall, senior outfielder, ground ball. Finally, Luis Duran, senior infielder, singled to left field to score Horchem.

The Hillcats scored their runs in the bottom of the eighth plating two.

The Details . . .

Duran and Horchem each had multiple hits in the contest. Duran recorded three with one run batted in while Horchem had two doubles with two runs batted in. Four other Swedes recorded hits in the contest.

Justan Bailey, junior pitcher, started things off on the mound for the Swedes, earning the win. Through eight complete innings, Bailey allowed two earned runs on nine hits. Gus Lopez, senior pitcher, came in to close things out. Through one inning, he allowed zero runs on one hit, earning the save.
