HUTCHINSON – While three of the McPherson Middle School track teams had rough days, the seventh-grade boys track team had a spectacular day by taking first last week at the Todd Thurston Invitational Track and Field Meet in Hutchinson.

The seventh-grade Junior Pups rolled up 97 1/2 points to win the 13-team field, finishing ahead of Buhler Prairie Hills (86), Maize South (45) and Hutchinson (44).

The seventh-grade girls placed fifth with 39 points, while the eighth-grade boys took eleventh and the eighth-grade girls finished twelfth.

Other teams participating besides McPherson were Hutchinson, Buhler Prairie Hills, Maize South, Haysville, Comanche, Newton, Andover, Salina Lakewood, Great Bend, Emporia, Salina South and Dodge City.

Leading the way for the seventh-grade boys was Kaiden Harold who took gold in the 200, while both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relay teams also scored gold. No individual names were available for the relay teams.

Also scoring high for the seventh-grade boys was double silver winners Javyn Alexander who took runner-up in both the 100 and 400 and Jace Schriner in the 200 and 400, while Kale French ran second in the 100 hurdles and .

Gaining silver medals for the eighth-grade girls was Marlo Brown in the 100 hurdles and the 4 x 200 relay team. The 4 x 100 relay team earned a second-place finish for the seventh-grade girls.

“Our teams competed and did an amazing job,” Head Coach TJ Jackson said. “There were personal records in every event. This is a much larger meet than we usually get to see and some of our kids who haven’t been tested, got just that and they did fantastic. We are extremely proud of all of them and the results.”

Next up for the Middle School track teams will be a trip to Circle on Tuesday and a long ride to Hays on Thursday.
