Despite resting some of their top players, the McPherson Middle School boys tennis team still scored a huge home victory on Monday when they out played Wichita Collegiate Middle School 13-4 in a dual at Wall Park.

“Today was a good day for our players to go out and compete hard,” Head Coach Ricardo Sanchez said. “I rested some of the top players, so we only played 12 today. We were short a player, but luckily Joey Miller had come to support and was able to run home to get his tennis stuff.”

And play he did as Miller teamed with Hunter Mendez to score one of the four double match victories, while the Junior Pups only lost one. In the single matches, McPherson scored nine wins out of 12 matches including four which were 6-0 shutout win, one by Miller.

“Our players were very consistent in their matches by not making many mistakes,” Coach Sanchez said. “Trenton (Huff) had a good match at the top of the line-up today. He did a good job of staying focused after each point in order to play his best. Henry (Boese) won a tight match, as he moved around the court extremely well and had great rallies with his opponent.”

The Middle School boys tennis team will be back on the courts on Thursday when they travel to Salina for a dual with Salina South at Oakdale Park.
