SALINA – It wasn’t pretty, but it was successful for the McPherson Middle School boys tennis team on Thursday as they battled on the road with Salina South and brought home a 13-8 victory.

The Junior Pups scored wins in nine of the fourteen singles matches, while also scoring victories in four of the seven doubles battles.

“Several of our players had great days today,” McPherson Middle School Head Coach Ricardo Sanchez said. “Tucker (Nelson) was able to get a win against a player he had lost to earlier in the season and Trenton (Huff) was able to get a good win over Salina South’s normal number one player. Some of our top players haven’t played in over a week and the rust was evident. Kayden (McVicker) lost two close matches that he was in a good position to have won. Josh (Wehrman) in his singles match was probably the highlight of the dual for me as he played his most complete match of the year, getting great serving and groundstrokes. He has improved so much from last season. It has been fun watching everyone’s progress.”

On Monday, April 29, the Junior Pups will send 12 players to Hesston for a dual before playing host to the Pioneer League Tournament at Wall Park on Thursday, May 2.
