DODGE CITY—While some area schools postponed it's baseball games due to inclement weather, the McPherson High School baseball team remained on schedule at Dodge City. It was a low-scoring doubleheader, but the Bullpups couldn't get any wins on the road against the Demons on Tuesday afternoon, losing 4-2 in game one and 3-2 in game two. The Bullpups drop to 5-11 this season with two more games left in their schedule.

Game One Dodge City 4 McPherson 2

Both McPherson and Dodge City put on a defensive effort as both teams settled for five hits, but the Demons were victorious in game one, beating the Bullpups 4-2.

The Bullpups recorded four errors throughout game one in their loss to Dodge City. McPherson set the tone in the opening inning with a one-run score off of Tytin Goebel's RBI single, which sent Gabe Hoover home. The Bullpups went scoreless for the next five innings afterward.

Dodge City tied the game in the bottom first, then added two in the bottom second, and one more in the bottom fifth.

In the top seventh, the Bullpups finally ended their slump and got one more run with an attempt to keep the inning going. Unfortunately, the game ended off a fielder's choice double play.

Tanner Cheatham and Goebel each tied for two hits, but Goebel gave the Bullpups their only RBI in game one. Dylan Rinker struggled on the mound as he only lasted two innings, allowing four hits and three runs. Cheatham was called up from the Bullpen as the relieved pitcher for the rest of the game.

Game Two Dodge City 3 McPherson 2

Game two went an extra inning. Despite the Bullpups out hitting the Demons 9-5, a walk-off win cost the Bullpups as they fell to Dodge City 3-2.

It was a strong pitching performance by both teams. The Bullpups pitching staff combined for seven strikeouts. Feil took the loss even though he lasted 1.1 innings. On the mound, he recorded three strikeouts and surrendered one hit and one run. Aidan Hoover and Goebel also pitched in game two as both tied for two strikeouts, two hits and one run each.

The game tied at two in the final stretch of the game. The Bullpups were not able to pull out any runs in the top eight which allowed the Demons to close out game two with an RBI single by Omar DonJuan. Feil, Goebel and Kourtney Craig each had two hits, and both Spencer Whitfield and Aidan Hoover each collected an RBI.

After going a full month of baseball on the road, the Bullpups will finally return home on Thursday as they host El Dorado High School at 4 p.m. at the Grant Sports Complex.
