GODDARD— The McPherson High School softball team played Tuesday's regionals with nothing to lose at Goddard High School. Right on the verge of a chance of the biggest upset of the year, Goddard scored late in the sixth inning and outlasted the Bullpups 7-5.

The Lions outhit the Bullpups 12-4, but it was still anyone's game. Addie Fitzmorris started on the circle for the Bullpups and lasted six innings. She only struck out two batters and walked four along with the 12 hits and seven earned runs. McPherson struck out nine times to Goddard's pitcher Kendal Legrand, who didn't give away any hits when she was on the circle. Taylor Bruce, Fitzmorris, Brette Doile and Hope Wehrman had one hit, and Bruce, Hailey Henson, Jaci Myers and Cameron Pelzel had one RBI each.

The Lions had an early lead in the bottom first after collecting four runs. Despite trailing 4-0, the Bullpups digged their way out of a deep hole. The Bullpups were on the board after an RBI double by Bruce in the top third. The Next inning, the Bullpups loaded up the bases and managed not only to pick up four runs, but captured their first lead of the game.

Goddard went scoreless for four innings after collecting four runs in the bottom first. The Lions finally caught up to the Bullpups in the bottom six by scoring three runs. Down 7-5 in the seventh inning, the Bullpups had a chance respond, but went scoreless in the end.

The Bullpups finished their season with the record of 4-15. Fortunately, it was a stepping stone in the right direction going into next spring when everyone, except Fitzmorris, are expected back for next season.
