CANTON—The Canton-Galva High School cross country team may be young, but they have plenty of experience going into the 2019 season.

Morgan Becker brings the most upside for the Eagles after being the only state qualifier as a freshman last year. Becker set a new school record by placing sixth during regionals in Belleville. He then finished 25th during the state meet.
"Morgan had a great freshman season last year," Eagles Head Coach Lyles Silsby said. "I know he has been putting in a lot of work over the summer, so I am anxious to see how this season will unfold. Hopefully as well as last season."

Also returning for the boys will be Christian Darrah, another sophomore coming off a strong freshman year. Silsby is looking forward to see his sophomore duo lead the boys team.

"Christian finished 21st at the Belleville regional and got to see Morgan’s state run, and I know it fired him up for this season," Silsby said. "Christian also had a strong track season, and his growth from the beginning of cross country to the end of track was tremendous."

Chase Klinkerman will be the lone senior of the bunch despite missing most of last season due to a stress fracture. However, Klinkerman is healthy and looking for a strong finish in is final year. Hayden Lance and Ethan Unruh were also mentioned Silby will be looking forward to this year.

The Eagles' top returning runner for the girls will be Leah Silsby. Silsby finished 30th in regionals, which was a personal best for the junior.
