The Bethany volleyball squad picked up a big 3-2 win today over defending KCAC Champions, McPherson College.

The Swedes took care of business early winning the first two sets. In the first set of the match, the Swedes were able to sneak away from the Bulldogs before holding off a late-set run by McPherson to take a 25-21 victory. Things stayed neck and neck throughout the second set with the Swedes just edging out the Bulldogs to pick up a 25-20 win. Set three looks very similar to the previous two, just in reverse. While the teams stayed even throughout the entire set, McPherson was able to sneak away with a 25-22 win over the Swedes. The Bulldogs were able to utilize their momentum and take the fourth set, 25-12, evening things up at 2-2. Finally, the Swedes managed to once again work their way above the Bulldogs and sneak away with the final set, 15-13.

Paola Sanabria-Lopez, junior hitter, led the team with 21 kills while her counterpart, Georgia Romine-Black, junior hitter, had 16 kills. Rounding out the Swedes offense was Jordan Valentine, sophomore middle with 11 kills in the match. Ivona Vojvodic, senior setter, totaled 47 assists throughout the contest while she was one of four Swedes with double-digit digs. Haley Reifsteck, junior libero, recorded a team high of 21 digs while Sanabria-Lopez and Vojvodic had 14 and 13 digs, respectfully. Finally, Brenna Black, senior passer, rounding things out with10 digs.

The Swedes travel next to Baldwin City, Kan. to compete in the Baker University Invitational. This tournament is set to take place on Friday, Sept. 6 through Saturday, Sept. 8.
