ROSE HILL— Fresh off the AVCTL Preseason League Tournament last weekend, the McPherson High School volleyball team weren't at its best on Tuesday evening after finishing 1-1, beating host team Rose Hill (25-21, 25-27, 25-21) and Augusta High School (22-25, 25-27).The Bullpups suffered their first loss in their league and are now 7-3 (3-1 in league-play).

"We looked tired, undisciplined and everything seemed to be a struggle," Doile said. "We didn't bring consistent enthusiasm or the next ball mentality that is ever so important to be successful in the game of volleyball. We had too many unforced errors. Our goal was to pick up right where we left vs. Maize. We were clicking, competing, enthusiastic, playing Bullpup volleyball just two days ago. Our goal is to get better every match. We fell short of both goals this evening."

Rhian Swanson led McPherson with 15 Kills and tied for four blocks with Katie Berg. Cassie Cooks had 14 kills and led with seven aces. Brette Doile collected 34 assists, and Taylor Casebeer had 17 digs. Doile believed the teams were not intimidated in challenging McPherson.

"Credit to Rose Hill and Augusta who played very hard," Doile said. "Augusta made less errors than us, therefore they beat us. Set 2, we found ourselves down 14-18, and we fought back to tie up the set, but Augusta closed us out 25-27. Rose Hill put themselves in a pretty good position to win, taking us to three sets. We thankfully were able to put enough positive plays at the end of set 3 to clinch the match."

With the rest of the week off, the Bullpups will be at El Dorado for another triangular as they take on Augusta again, and El Dorado High School next Tuesday at 5 p.m.
