The moment she stepped foot on the grounds of Washburn University, Andrea Sweat knew this is where she belongs. She made it official on Sunday morning, announcing via Twitter that she will continue her basketball career as a Ichabod.

"Super excited to announce that I will be continuing my education and basketball career at Washburn University," Sweat said on her Twitter page. "Feeling blessed to be surrounded by such great people who supported me along the way."

Sweat will be a member of Ron McHenry's 2020 recruiting class. Washburn, a division-II school in the MIAA conference, had a respectful year under McHenry, finishing 20-10 and made it to the conference semifinals last year. McHenry will be going into his 20th season with the Ichabods.

"After I went on my official visit in August, my decision was made, and I was excited to share with everyone," Sweat said. "I thought the size of the school was a good fit for me. Also, the campus was so beautiful. The girls were so welcoming, and the coaching staff was great."

What also played a role in her decision was being close to her older sister Ashley Sweat-Miller, who resides in Lincoln, Nebraska. The campus is less than three hours apart from Lincoln. Sweat plans on studying in the education field with the goals of becoming a teacher, work in administration and become a coach.

"I enjoy working with kids and want to make a positive impact on young people's lives," Sweat said.

Sweat has been a member of all three winning seasons with the McPherson High School girls basketball team and volleyball team. One of those seasons includes being part of the 2018 Class 4A State Basketball Championship team, where she was only a sophomore at the time.

Sweat will be one of Chris Strathman's top returning players in the 2019-2020 season. Also returning will be Grace Pyle, Fort Hays State commit Emma Ruddle, Lakyn Schieferecke and Cassie Cooks. The Bullpups went 21-3 last season, finishing fourth in the Class 5A state tournament in Emporia. Sweat is in middle of playing her final season with the McPherson volleyball team.
