Canton-Galva sweeps Elyria, Burrton
CANTON—Canton-Galva High School volleyball team hosted a triangular with Burrton High School and Elyria Christian School on Thursday.
Canton-Galva was victorious in both matches, defeating Burrton (26-24, 26-24) in two tight sets, and then later sweeping Elyria (25-21, 25-16).
"It was a late night for the Lady Eagles at home, but the players pulled off a couple of good wins. There was some great volleyball played by all teams tonight," Canton-Galva head coach Cloe Hedlund head coach said. "Lots of hustle and passion displayed on the court. We continue to work on consistency on our side of the court, working on setting up our offense every time we have the ball. At many times we played consistently, and hopefully, we can continue to make that an all match thing."
Elyria was not able to leave Canton-Galva with a win. The Eagles went to three sets but came up short to Burrton 25-19, 26-28, 18-25. Kylee Penner led Elyria with eight kills and 13 digs, and Katelyn Huddle recorded 17 assists and 10 digs. Penner also had six kills and four aces in lost to Canton-Galva.
"Despite losing, we played more like the team that I know we can be," Elyria Head coach Jayme Gardner said. "We did a lot of things well tonight. We had to make a lot of adjustments that we haven't faced this season. After a while, we finally got into the groove of things.
It was fun to watch the girls succeed in some of the little things that we have been focusing on in practice."
Canton-Galva will focus on the Herington Tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m. Elyria will compete in the Wakefield Tournament on the same day.
