The McPherson High School volleyball team doesn't have many home games this year. So the Bullpups made it all count, especially on senior night when they swept Clearwater High School (25-12, 25-17) and Rose Hill High School ( 25-10, 25-15) in two sets on Tuesday evening. The Bullpups now improve to 18-4 on the season and are focused on the Spring Hill Tournament this weekend.

The Bullpups are coming off a hard-fought second-place finish at the Newton Invitational. Before their triangular, the Bullpups focused on the mental reps while having an easy practice, knowing that they have their eyes on the Spring Hill tournament coming up this weekend, in which Doile believes is the toughest tournament on their schedule. Spring Hill High School is undefeated this season. Other teams that will be participating are Blue Valley Southwest, Paola, Piper and Turner. The tournament will begin at 8 a.m.

"We kind of took it easy yesterday," Doile said. "We just kind of went through a couple of things that we needed to fix. Over the weekend, we weren't collapsing, we worked on some blocking a little bit, and we did our study hall, we watched the middle school we served, and we just had a low-key day so that we be ready and excited to play today. It was just a mental break."

The Bullpups dominated in their serves. Brette Doile led eight-straight points against Clearwater. She also finished the night with 33 totals assists. As for Rose Hill, the Bullpups started the match with a 9-0 run. Cassie Cooks, who was one of the three seniors honored during senior night, had five consecutive aces against the Rockets. Katie Berg and Rhian Swanson tied for 15 total kills, and Cooks had 14. Andrea Sweat led McPherson with nine digs, while Lauren Labertew and Taylor Casebeer tied for eight.

Before the start of the Rose Hill, McPherson honored its three seniors, Cooks, Sweat and Brittani Burgess. It may be a small class, but Doile reflected on each of them after the triangular.

"It's the Cassie-Sweat show," Doile said. "Cassie is the upbeat crazy one, and she rides on the high emotion and sweat keeps us all calm, and then there' s Brittany (Burgess) who is completely selfless. She helps us any way that she can and just enjoys being with us and around us. They're just nice people and nice kids. Each of them is just unique."
