AUGUSTA— The AVCTL D-III league belongs to the McPherson High School boys soccer team. The Bullpups ended its league-play with a 6-1 win over Augusta High School on Tuesday. The Bullpups now can say they are perfect in their league.

"This was an important game tonight for league bragging rights as well as postseason seeding, and it couldn't have started any better," McPherson's coach Chris Adrian said.

The Bullpups recorded 28 shots on goal against the Orioles. The first half started with Britton Haigh scoring back-to-back goals in less than three minutes. The first goal was only 23 seconds into the first half Drew Schrader gave Haigh the assist on the cross. Two minutes Jael Jamie gave Haigh the assist, which gave McPherson an early 2-0 lead. Jaime added another assist when he connected with Trenton Stecklein to end the first half with a 3-1 lead.

"The boys were moving the ball so well and playing great soccer," Adrian said. "We had several opportunities to deliver the knock-out blow and make the game comfortable, but the goal post was Augusta's best friend unfortunately as we hit it three times in the first half alone."

Drew Schrader set the tone in the second when he scored the Bullpups' fourth goal off Rhett Edmonson's assist. However, the night went to Caden Hargrave as he showed aggression from both sides of the ball. Hargrave added two mores off Schrader's and Jaimie's assists.

Caden Hardgrave once again had an excellent game and showed that he's not only a great defender but also an excellent attacker," Adrian said. "He's a great weapon to have attacking from the backline.

With the win, the Bullpups improve to 13-2 and are locked into a top 4 spot in the postseason, giving them the home-field advantage in the first two games.McPherson will return on the road for its regular-season finale at Great Bend High School on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
