WICHITA—The Bethany volleyball team suffered a heartbreaking loss on the road at Friends University. The Swedes fell to the Falcons 3-0 in this KCAC contest.
Both teams fought from start to finish in the first set and throughout the match trading runs to keep things evened up. However, the Falcons were able to go on a run at the right time when the game was tied up at 19-19. Friends allowed the Swedes just one more point in the set, taking game one 25-20. The Swedes came back firing in the second set, while the first few points were back and forth, Bethany was able grab a lead and extend it to 18-10. However, from there the Falcons turned on the jets and went back to stringing together several runs, keeping the Swedes to just one point at a time. Friends was able to come back and take the set 26-24. The Falcons then used that momentum in the third set getting out to an early advantage. From there the Swedes would come back on their heels but were never able to fully come back and tie things up. Friends was able to take the third set 25-21, taking the match 3-0.
A pair of Swedes had double-digit digs to lead the Bethany defense. Haley Reifsteck, junior libero, recorded 24 digs while Natalie Tricoche, junior passer, added 15. Offensively, the Swedes were commanded as always by Ivona Vojvodic, senior setter, who posted 29 assists in the match. Paola Sanabira-Lopez, junior hitter, put up 12 kills while Georgia Romine-Black, junior hitter, and Jordan Valetine, sophomore middle, had nine and eight kills, respectively.

The Swedes return to the court to celebrate four seniors on Friday, Nov. 1. Bethany will host Southwestern College in Hahn Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
