A week after sharing the Most Valuable Player in the AVCTL Division III league, Rhian Swanson of McPherson High School made the Class 5A All-State volleyball team as an honorable mention.

"I was super excited to be nominated," Swanson said. "But I wouldn't have made it without my coaches and teammates. Without good passes and good sets, I wouldn't have an opportunity to hit."

Swanson, a KU commit, is ending her sophomore season, leading the Bullpups with 407 total kills, which is an improvement from her freshman season. She records a 45.5 percent kills percentage and .295 in hitting percentage. Swanson will be one of the Bullpups' top returning player as a junior as McPherson loses three seniors.

The Bullpups finished the 2019 season with 28-12 record.

In the McPherson County area, Abby Rose of Smoky Valley High School also received honorable mention in Class 3A. So did Lily Boughfman of Little River High School.
