YORK, Neb. — The McPherson College women's basketball team coasted to a 79-61 win over the York College Tuesday night.
It was a sloppy night offensively for the Bulldogs, turning the ball over 29 times, but they persevered, holding York to a six-point second quarter. Brittany Roberts had another double-double performance, collecting 15 points, 17 rebounds, five assists and only turning the ball over once. Elle Gillen chipped in 10 points and went 5 of 6 from the free-throw stripe. Nicole Abunaja didn't have a performance that jumps off of the box score, however, her dogged defense and sharpshooting helped the Bulldogs immensely.
The Bulldogs were dominant in two key areas Tuesday night: the paint and bench contributions. They outscored the Panthers 53 to 32 in the paint. The Bulldog bench-mob totaled 44 while the Panthers only collected 26.
"After a sluggish start, I thought our defense got us going," Bulldogs' Josh Nichols said. "Best of all is how we came out of the locker room in the third quarter. We blew the game open. As much as Brittany and Elle carried us in the scoring column, Nicole brought an unmatched energy on the court and the bench. Felt like this was a real team effort and Nicole had as much to do with that as anyone."
The Bulldogs move to 6-5 on the season and will play at the University of St Mary after Thanksgiving break, on Dec. 2.
