AUGUSTA, KANSAS — The McPherson High School girls basketball ended the regular season in an impressive fashion at Augusta High School. The Bullpups bulldozed the Orioles and completed the season with the 19-1 record and unbeaten in the AVCTL Division II league.

Augusta falls to 3-17 with one more game left in its schedule.

The Bullpups showed why they are the No. 1 seed in Class 5A West from the start of tipoff when the Bullpups knocked three three-pointers in the first two minutes of the game. Augusta was only held to two points in the first quarter.

McPherson shot 26 for 51 from the field. Three Bullpups finished in double figures. Kassidy Beam and Grace Pyle were McPherson's top scorers with 17 points. Beam saw nothing but triples as she knocked five three-pointers. Pyle took it to the hole and even added five boards and three assists. Cassie Cooks finished the night with 10 points. Emma Ruddle and Lakyn Schieferecke tied with seven points.

"The girls I thought looked ready to play tonight, which was a big credit to them because the last game with Augusta got out of hand right away," MHS's Head Coach Chris Strathman said. "Even though they kind of knew that if we came out and play like so-so, then they'll probably still be able to win, but it's good not that we are not content to do that because they want to play well each time."

Augusta only made 8-of-39 from the field.

Individually, the Lady Orioles scored no higher than five points with McPherson shutting Augusta down defensively. Holle Slusser, Emma Tipton and Makenzie Terry each finished with five points.

While the Lady Pups waits to see who they will face in at sub-state, the Orioles will have their season finale on the road at Winfield High School on Thursday at 6 p.m.
