OAKLEY — The Inman High School football team picked up a statement win on Friday with a 39-13 win at Oakley.

Oakley entered Friday’s game with a 3-0 record with impressive wins over Thomas More Prep, Plainville and Ell-Saline.

Inman head coach Lance Sawyer, whose team is coming of back-to-back shutouts, said Friday night against Oakley was the best defensive performance he’s seen from his team the last two years.

"We were able to force them to have to consistently get three to four yards at at a time, and we never really gave up the big play until the game was really not in question," Sawyer said. "Nate Shober and Mason Carter really had some nice stops. We were able to have great field position all game."

Inman led 19-7 at halftime thanks to three total touchdowns from Tanner Heckel — two rushing touchdowns and a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Carter Brown added a 16-yard touchdown run in the third, and quarterback Jace Doerksen rushed and threw for a touchdown in the fourth to put the game away.

Doerksen was 10 of 11 for 99 yards.

"Tanner Heckel had his best game as an Inman Teuton," Sawyer said. "He returned the opening kick for a touchdown and then proceeded to score our next two touchdowns. I thought our offensive line played really well. And Jace Doerksen played an extremely efficient game at quarterback."

The Teutons face another tough opponent next Friday when they host Plainville.
