McPHERSON — Fourth-ranked Bishop Carroll (5A) and second-ranked McPherson (4A) met in Saturday’s McPherson Invitational final, with Carroll winning in straight sets 25-16, 25-20.


Eight teams in total were in attendance, and Carroll ended the day as the only team with a 4-0 record. In pool play, the the Golden Eagles defeated Goddard (25-15, 25-10), Nickerson (25-12, 25-17), and Hutchinson (25-11, 25-14).


Bishop Carroll did not drop a set on the day.


McPherson won its pool without dropping a set, as well. The Bullpups defeated Pittsburg (25-16, 25-15), Garden City (25-11, 25-14), and Garden Plain (25-18, 25-16).


Hutchinson, ranked 10th in 6A, won both of its matches outside of Carroll. The Salthawks defeated Nickerson (13-25, 25-20, 27-25) and Goddard (25-16, 25-15).


Hutchinson finished fourth at the invitational and ended the day with a 24-26, 25-12, 25-17 loss to Garden Plain - ranked second in 2A - in bracket play.


Nickerson, ranked 10h in 4A, went 1-2 in pool play. Outside of their losses to Hutchinson and Carroll, the Panthers defeated Goddard 18-25, 25-8, 25-14.


In bracket play, Nickerson finished fifth with a 25-18, 25-23 win over Garden City.


Hutchinson, now 17-8, travels to Newton on Tuesday for a triangular with the Railers and Maize South.


Nickerson will take a 16-11 record into a triangular at Hillsboro on Tuesday with Hoisington also in attendance.


The Bullpups improve to 26-3 on the season and host Buhler and El Dorado on Tuesday in a triangular.
