It was a shock to the system — a man considered the future of administration for the city of McPherson passed away suddenly.

Bo Carl Moddelmog, 30, of McPherson,  passed away at 6:40 p.m., Saturday, December 12th, 2020 unexpectedly, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina.

"He came out of a Salina restaurant, collapsed and never recovered," said Tom Brown, mayor of McPherson. "We will never know the real cause because he tested positive for COVID. Testing positive for COVID, they are not allowed to do autopsy."

Moddelmog was born in McPherson Hospital and grew up on Canton. He worked for Canton Grocery, Rundstrom Accounting, Galva Rec and the KU Book Store before taming a position as  the Assistant City Administrator for the City of McPherson.

"Bo was a highly esteemed person. People that worked with him always felt good working for him," Brown said. "Even if he did not agree with you, he treated you kindly. He was terrific on the boards and organizations that he interfaced with for the city and he was a great representative of the city."

Bo was a member of Fellow Christian Athletes, was a member and on the board of the YP Mac and YMCA board, a member of Relay For Life, All Schools Day, and many other community organizations.

"I worked with Bo for most of the last 10 years with the Fellowship of Christian Atheltes," Brown said. " ... Bo had an impact on many middle school and senior high school kids."

Moddelmog, a graduate of Kansas Univeristy,  enjoyed KU athletics, hanging out with his friends and family and Canton Galva athletics.

Moddelmog attended Galva grade school and graduated from Canton – Galva High School, Canton, Kansas in 2009 where he served as class president, played football, basketball, and track, was president of SADD, was on the Journalism staff, was a member of  FBLA and served as president and State District 5 vice president, a member of National Honor Society.  He then attended Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas for two years, where he served as RA and on the Student Government, and graduated from Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas with his Political Science degree and served on Student Government.  Bo then attended and graduated from Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas with a Master’s degree in Public Administration.

"He was the future of our administration,"  Brown said.  "We had talked about this at our retreat several years ago, that we would not have to go outside [of the city] but we would groom Bo to be the man. We did not get that far. But he contributed greatly. He loved people and people loved him.

Services for Moddelmog were Thursday, for video of the service visit or\  Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery Canton. Memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship of Christian Athletes in memory of Bo and they can be sent in care of the Glidden – Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
