MCPHERSON – Strong defense was matched with a solid offensive output on Tuesday to give the McPherson boys a resounding 59-25 win over Pratt at home in the Roundhouse in their first-round game of the Class 4A substate playoffs.

Now 11-10 for the season, the Bullpups will get to tangle with Buhler for the third time this season as the Crusaders beat Nickerson 66-53 on Tuesday to also advance to the substate finals.

The McPherson defense did their part in the first half, holding Pratt to just four points in the first quarter and another eight in the second while the Bullpup offense put 15 points on the scoreboard in the first eight minutes and another 22 in the second eight minutes to take a commanding 25-point, 37-12 halftime lead. After the intermission, McPherson then outscored the Greenbacks 22-13 in the final two quarters to score the final 34-point victory.

Senior Bullpup guard Eli Pyle may have finally reignited his shooting as he connected on five three-pointers in leading the team with 19 points.

Ten total Bullpups put points in the scorebook during the hammering of Pratt, with Seth Madron and Mason Miller just missing double digits with nine points each.
