McPherson Center for Health adds permanent MRI to radiology department

Special to The Sentinel

McPherson Center for Health announces the addition of a permanent MRI housed in a new, dedicated area of the radiology department. The unit replaces a mobile service that was offered for MRI patients for many years.

“It is exciting to be able to place the latest MRI imaging technology right here in McPherson,” said McPherson Hospital Director of Radiology Jim Barten. “This scanner combines excellent quality imaging with faster scan times to help create a positive experience for our patients and providers. This is a great investment in the hospital that will benefit the community for many years to come.”

The unit is the latest Siemens Magnetom Altea model located in a modern, dedicated space. With a 1.5 Tesla wide-bore magnet and Siemens’ unique AI-enhanced Biomatrix technology, it produces high-quality images leading to timely, accurate results reported by board-certified radiologists.

Technologists have been spending time learning safety protocols, software operations and conducting scans on test patients and are now scheduling regular patients who are asked to contact their health care provider for referral.

Greg Thomas, MD, family medicine physician and clinical associate professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine said the quality of these images is as good as anything this side of Kansas City. “Right here in McPherson, we have the highest quality images conveniently available for patients.”

Hospital officials say pre-paid cash discounts are available. Patients are encouraged to call 620-798-2617 for information on pricing.
