Mckenzie Murphy, of Emporia, will serve as the next director of the library.

A new director will take the reins of the McPherson Public Library following an announcement by Board of Trustees of the McPherson Public Library this week.

Mckenzie Murphy, of Emporia, will serve as the next director of the library.  Murphy is currently assistant director of the Emporia Public Library.  She will begin her new position on December 6.

“We are pleased to welcome Mckenzie as the new director of the McPherson Public Library.  She brings to the position an enthusiastic love of libraries, and we know she is eager to join us and continue the great work of the public library in this community,” said Janette Hess, board president and chair of the search committee.

Murphy began her career as a library assistant at the Emporia Public Library while studying history at Emporia State University.  While at the library she discovered her love of connecting with her community and helping people find the resources they needed.  She continued on to earn her masters in Library and Information Science from ESU.  Murphy is excited to share her enthusiasm and energy as the new director of the McPherson Public Library.

Steve Read, who has served as director since 1990, is retiring at the end of this year.
