ANDOVER – Less than 24-hours after they had evened their season record, the McPherson boys went back on the road to Andover and ran into an offensive buzzsaw named Skyler Clevenger as he led Andover Central to just their third victory of the season with a 12-point, 54-42 defeat of the Bullpups on Saturday.

Andover Central's Skyler Clevenger (1!) attempts a shot over a McPherson defender on Saturday, Feb. 13. Clevenger scored 29 points to help the Jaguars to the win over Bullpups.

It seemed the Bullpups had no answer for Clevenger as he scored 14 points in the first half and another 16 in the second while connecting on 7-of-13 shots from the field including six three-pointers to go with making 10-of-13 free throws in scoring 30 points.

McPherson fell behind early and found themselves down by 10 at 18-8 by the end of the first quarter and were down eight at the halftime break before keeping within four points of the Jaguars second half output before succumbing to the 12-point loss.

Seth Madron led the Bullpups on offense with 12 while Jaytin Alexander scored eight. You know when the McPherson offense may be struggling as Eli Pyle missed all seven of his shots for the game and finished without scoring a single point.

In catching Bullpup Head Coach Kurt Kinnamon on the radio after the game, he explained, “We have to face it at this point in time, we are just not shooting it well. We are not good enough defensively to play a game where you have to hold somebody to 40 points to win, we have got to get where we make shots.”

The loss drops the Bullpups back below .500 for the season at 7-8 as they return home on Tuesday to battle with longtime rival Buhler. McPherson does play four of their final five regular season games at home in the Roundhouse.

In the junior varsity game, the Bullpups were 58-38 winners as Sam Becker hit for 14 and Trey Buckbee scored 10.

On Saturday in Hutchinson the McPherson freshman team remained unbeaten with two wins. They scored a dominating 72-38 victory over Goddard as Cory Muehler, Jayce Schriner and Kyden Thompson led the way with 14, 13, and 11 points each. In the second game, the Pups hammered Campus 72-38 as Kyden Thompson put 15 in the scorebook and Cory Muehler chipped in with 11.
