Girls dominate

EL DORADO – The McPherson girls did not have to use up a lot of sweat and grit on Friday as they went on the road Friday and totally dominated El Dorado with a 63-22 victory.

This may prove a good thing for the Lady Bullpups as they improve their season mark to 12-2 by recording their ninth win in a row before having to turn around on short rest and travel south on Saturday afternoon to battle with Andover Central, the number-one ranked team in the state.

McPherson powered out to a quick 11-point, 18-7 lead by the end of the first quarter thanks to nine points from Kassidy Beam. By the time the two teams reached the halftime break, the Lady Bullpups had blown up their lead to 21 points at 37-16 before they continued efficient play throughout the second half to earn the final 41-point win.

After scoring 19 points in the first half, Beam led the Lady Bullpups overall with 21 points as 10 girls put points by their name in the scorebook. Grace Pyle jointed Beam in double digits with 14.

In the girls junior varsity game, all 12 players made the scorebook in the 46-point, 57-11 hammering of the junior varsity Lady Wildcats. Only Emily Whorton made double digits with 13 while both Harper Smith and Cameron Pelzel came up short with nine points each.

Boys even record

EL DORADO – They did it, the McPherson boys got off the skid of four straight losses on Friday by scoring a 57-47, 10-point win on the road at El Dorado.

After fall behind by as much of five points and scoring just six points in the first seven minutes of the first quarter, the Bullpups righted the offensive ship enough to take a 10-0 run to gain a five-point, 24-19 advantage going into the halftime break.

The Bullpup defense held the Wildcats leading scorer, LJ Berstresser in check as he finished with just four points on the night.

While Seth Madron led the Bullpups with 20 points, it was sophomore Hunter Alvord who capitalized on a pair of three-pointers to reach double digits with 10 points while helping Trey Buckbee shore up the defense.

The victory evens the Bullpup record at 7-7 for the season as they have a short turn around with a Saturday afternoon makeup game on the road at Andover Central.

In the Junior Varsity and freshman games, the Pups scored an easy 66-42 win in the JV game as Sam Becker led 12 Bullpups in scoring with 11 while the freshman boys scored a 26-point, 69-43 win as three players hit double digits including Cory Muehler with 15, Owen Pyle scored `11
