McPherson's Grace Pyle (24), shown in earlier action this season, chipped in 24 points during McPherson's 69-21 win over Winfield.

WINFIELD – The McPherson girls used a 33-0 run in the first half to break the spirit of Winfield on their way to a dominating 69-21 win on the road on Friday.

With the score 11-5 two-thirds of the way through the first quarter, the Lady Bullpups went on a 33-0 run to take a commanding 46-8 lead into the halftime break before cruising in for the final 48-point victory.

“I was really pleased with the focus and effort we had right from the opening tip tonight,” noted Lady Bullpups Head Coach Chris Strathman in an interview heard on KBBE radio. “I thought our energy was good right from the start and once the three-pointers started going in, they busted up their zone.”

Grace Pyle led the Lady Bullpups with 24 points of which 15 came in the first two quarters while Peyton Howard finished with 14 and Kassidy Beam chipped in with 12.

The McPherson defense stifled the Lady Vikings and held them to just connecting on eight of 33 shots from the field or just 24%.

Coach Strathman concluded his radio reflections of the game by adding, “I thought Peyton (Howard) helped set the tone when we got the ball to her in the high post early and she turned and attacked their big. She was able to get to the basket and get some nice finishes and when she could not get the finish, she kicked the ball our to the corner for our three-point shooters.”

With the win the Lady Bullpups are now unbeaten at 8-0 in AVCTL Division III play and 14-3 for the season as they enter the final week of the regular season with a busy week of games. Lucky for McPherson all three games are at home beginning with Andale on Monday, Augusta on Tuesday and then they finish out the week on Friday hosting Circle.

In the junior varsity game, McPherson once again buried Winfield 63-28 as 10 players put points in the scorebook led by Karter Alvord with 19 while Emily Whorton just missed double digits with nine and Ella Buschbom chipped in with eight.
