Lady Bullpups bury Pratt from deep

MCPHERSON – It was raining three-point shots on Tuesday in the McPherson Roundhouse as the McPherson girls used long range shooting to bury Pratt, 74-20, in the first round of the Class 4A substate.

Now 18-3 for the season, the Lady Bullpups will play again on Saturday afternoon against the winner of the Wednesday game with Nickerson and Ulysses. Nickerson is currently ranked number four in Class 4A, just one spot behind McPherson.

The Lady Bullpups hammered Pratt from the opening tip by scoring 22 points in the first quarter while holding the Lady Greenbacks to just one bucket, and then turned it up a notch and scored a whopping 32 points in eight minutes to take a decisive 44-point, 54-10 advantage into the halftime break. McPherson then came out in the second half and outscored Pratt 20-10 to earn the final 54-point victory.

For the game the Lady Bullpups put 12 three-pointers through the net including nine in just the first two quarters.

Kassidy Beam was the hot hand of the game as she overcame her offensive struggles the past few games to drop in six three-pointers in a row in the fist half and finished with all 21 of her points by halftime.

In the paint, Grace Pyle put 18 points in the scorebook before halftime and ended up leading the team overall with 24 on the night.

Lauren Labertew and Peyton Howard both came close to double digits with eight points each as the Lady Bullpups finished the game shooting 52% while making 26-of-50, helped by a remarkable 21-of-25 in the first two quarters.
