Outdoor notebook: Olpe church hosting fish fry, tournament; QUWF banquet planned in Lawrence
Ebenezer United Methodist Church is hosting its 2021 Fishing Tournament and Community Fish Fry on May 28 and 29 at the church in Olpe.
Entry fee is $25 per registered angler, with a limit of four anglers per team, and registration runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 28 and 9 to 10 a.m. May 29.
Teams are limited to one fishing category per entry fee, but may purchase more entry fees if they wish to fish additional categories. Team categories include Largest Catch, Scale Fish Catch, Catfish Catch, with individual categories for Largest Scale Fish, Largest Channel/Blue Catfish (caught on rod and reel), Longest Panfish Presented and Longest Crawdad, as well as special youth awards for ages 12 and under with no entry fee or registration required.
Anglers will be allowed to fish at spots of their choice, with eligible fish including bass, crappie, walleye and catfish. Fishing is allowed from Friday morning through Saturday's 3 p.m. weigh-in deadline, and split weigh-ins are allowed. The top five fish from combined weigh-ins are used for final entry. All fish must be alive or presented on ice at weigh-in for the community fish fry.
Prize winners or their representative must be present during the fish fry to win awards.
The community fish fry/pot luck and awards ceremony will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. May 29. Fish, hot dogs and paper products will be furnished. Bring a side dish of your choice and lawn chairs if eating outside.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Ebenezer Compassion Fund.

QUWF banquet planned
The Jayhawk Quail and Upland Wildlife Federation has announced the date for its annual banquet dinner and auction.
The event will take place beginning at 5 p.m. Sept. 11 at the DoubleTree Hotel & Convention Center, 200 McDonald Drive in Lawrence.
Tickets for the event are $50 or two for $75, with kids 16 and under getting in for $25. They can be pre-purchased online at https://www.jayhawkquwf.com, at Hite Collision on 6th Street, at the Downtown Barber Shop on Mass Street or at Stoneback Appliance on Iowa Street.
Festivities will include hunting and other sporting items, dinner and cocktails, live and silent auction items, raffles and games, KU and K-State memorabilia, bird dog puppies for sale, kids items and gifts for women.
